Dogs in Waterworld: Video

Thankfully the wild dogs came down from the hills at dawn, Puzzles leading the pack again. It wasn’t long until she was back on the main road heading south with her pack in tow.

Listening
2kms down the road she did a ‘U’-turn, back north up the main drag for a kilometre and then west. Now she was heading straight into impala-land.
Soon impala were ‘flying’ everywhere, most with a dog hot on their heels.
The kills came quickly. I think 3 of them, but I only found Jiggy and one pup feeding on the one kill. They left and I found others on another kill and from the sounds there was yet another to the south. All kills within 200m of each other and all after only a short chase of less than 500m.

Stained
The dogs were now all in great shape with rounded tummies. Again Puzzles took them north, all resting in a pan to cool off. It was already hot and the dogs had been on a long hunt. Of course I expected them to spend the day here, but 2mins later Puzzles had the pack on the run still heading north.

Cooling off
It was only half an hour later and several kilometres further that she eventually pulled up in the shade of mopanie trees to rest.
The pack hardly roused and soon before sunset the pups were up playing in a pan. And when the games ended, so did everything else and nobody went hunting tonight. For a change they were spending a night at home.

Dancing Butterflies: Video

The rains have been great in holding back for the day and looks like we could have another dry spell ahead of us. But it sure will take some time before all terrain is again driveable as the soils are so waterlogged.
Peeping
Despite that we managed to keep up the dogs this morning. They were right in the east hunting in the mopanie woodlands but were unsuccessful. The pack looks lean but all still maintain their peak athletic condition.
Dogs on the run
We left the dogs resting fairly late this morning, as they’d been off to a late start with the morning chill that had set in early. It was pretty cold for a mid summer’s morning, but soon the sun was out baking again.
Groupie
Besides these giraffe bulls sparring with each other, it was pretty quiet out there. And the only thing disturbing the peace was my very unhappy vehicle. Before I knew it she was overheating and coughing and splattering. When I opened the hood and removed the radiator cap I was treated to the fireworks. The radiator was like a steam train spewing steam and a rapid rate and not looking like letting up. Luckily close by was a pan and I was able to fill it up and soon found the water pump was the problem. It was leaking badly and had caused the overheating.
Striding Nyala
We managed to limp home and were grounded for the rest of the day. And probably another couple of days as I try to get spares from South Africa.
