Thank you so much for taking and sharing these photos on flickr. In August 1997 we visited Zimbabwe on an ACE Study Tour to look at Rock Art, Zimbabwe-type ruins and animals. The tour was led by an academic from Southampton University called Sarah Champion, and we toured around the whole country starting at Harare, Mutare, Great Zimbabwe, Bulawayo, Khami, Natale, Hwangie and Victoria Falls. It was a wonderful holiday - and at that time the exchange rate stood at Zim$16 = £1. We bought so many small soapstone carvings it is a wonder that the plane got off the ground. When we reached Bulawayo we heard that Princess Diana had died in a car crash - the local press and tv was full of coverage, but it didn't prepare us for the sights in London when we got back - it was surreal. I still feel disconnected from the events, and a sense of isolation from not having shared the national experience at that time.
