Again the dogs must have hunted with the moon this morning and were back feeding Puzzles before dawn.
Nike was still determined to see the little ones but mom was having none of it.
The pups seemed a little restless moving around in the small gap I could see through. And Puzzles again kept moving them to the new spot she’d made.
By mid morning all was quiet and Puzzles was snuggled up with her little ones.
It was a quiet afternoon too with Puzzles not venturing out her new spot and growling whenever any of the sub-adults ventured close. There was no sign of the pups this afternoon as they seemed happily snuggled up with Puzzles.
The hyaenas moved their den about a week ago to this new den where Mark filmed them. They seemed a little nervous as they get accustomed to their new home.
I have a couple of questions… do you know why the hyenas moved to another den? I noticed it happened after the dogs discovered them. Would that have had anything to do with it? Also, since they are holes in the ground, are these dug by the hyenas or other critters?
it’s not uncommon for hyaenas to move den. usually cos of a build up in parasites in the den. the wild dogs aren’t a concern to them at all. Activity of lions around then might make them move though.
hyaenas usually use old antbear or warthog burrows for their den. the cubs then modify these and dig them deeper.
Holy cow, how do they all fit in that little hole?! I mean, I know it’s probably much larger on the inside. It was just funny seeing them all popping up, or trying to get back in.
It is really fascinating how some of the babies immediately scurried into the hole and a couple of the others acted like nothing was wrong. Reminds me of little kids!!
Were my eyes duping me, or was that quite a few young ones in a clan? Is that usual to have that many young ones all around the same age? Great footage!

not uncommon at all. they do sometimes synchronize their births. mom’s only have one or 2 cubs. only been a couple of reports of 3.
