The “Jedi Knight” himself, Kim Wolhuter, has returned with the troops – the Wolhuter girls. I enjoy having more people around and Kim’s girls bring a little spark to the lowveld. This also means that we will be back on the Lions tonight, calling for a performance of a lifetime. Being out in the wild at night is the best, sleeping under a ceiling of stars and the cool breeze on your face. It just allows one to breathe easy, have a cup of coffee and let the night sounds resonate with your soul.

I was out this morning a little later than usual, because of our clock changing, and I drove to Sosigi Dam to find the Fish Eagles calling and one of them swooping in to catch a fish. This action was not reinacted for wildcasting (this time), but the hammerkops were also skimming the surface of the water catching toads. The longer the rains hold off, the more the animals seem to be filtering in to where there is water left. Many pans have dried up and the dams are very low. Nduna dam dropped drasticly in level over the last week. Loads of antelope, zebra, giraffe and warthog are hanging around during the days to contend with the blistering heat.
Kim went to say hello to the Wild Dogs yesterday afternoon, the first time in 2 weeks. The dogs are still hanging around Nduna, enjoying the shade that the koppies provide. Life in the wild can be unforgiving sometimes. At least it teaches us that life is worth fighting for. It’s a jungle out there, even in the city and we must use our weapons of choice - for Kim and myself… it’s the camera lens.
