Hartebeest take their chances: Video

I had to make a sudden trip to Harare and so of course didn’t get to see the doggies today. I hope they made it okay without me ☺

Just back home now and rushing to get Wildcast up. This clip I shot about a month ago.

  • Okay…how fast are hartebeest? Are they not the most endangered antelope species? Here’s hoping if so, they are making a comeback.

Whilst on antelope, do oryx kneel and rake their horns (proper terminology?) back and forth in defense against a predator as the sable does? Is the sable’s horns longer, thus being more effective in guarding from rear attack?

Really like this music. It always reminds me of Chip, jouncing about wiggling his trunk as if it were rubber….

  • no not the most endangered antelope. They’re not common in this area but in malawi and places they are.
yes Oryx use their horns in much the same way as sable. the straight horns are probably easier in protecting the rear as the curved horns would touch the ground.
