Last night proved to be pretty quiet. The lions had moved off their buffalo carcass and 6 hyaenas had moved in to clean it all up.

It was then onto the dogs first thing this morning. They were still in the northeast, but just milling around. All looked fairly well fed. Probably still from the double kill they had the day before yesterday.

It was a cool day and they stayed active into midmorning. I left them in thick bush being sure they wouldn’t go hunting now.
Then I traversed the whole property with friends, which proved to be hardly productive. We saw plenty of animals but didn’t find the elephant herds or any sign of lions. And I’m sure if we’d just spent time at one or 2 waterholes we would most definitely have seen elephants, but at the time keeping on the move seemed more productive for them on their limited stay.

Late afternoon it was back to the wild dogs. They were in much the same place. As we approached the pups came to ‘greet’ us and then moved on disappearing into some thick bush. As I was going around I saw the pups following me. They followed the vehicle tracks all the way to the vehicle. It was all just curiousity. But the great thing is they don’t seem to be phased by the vehicle. This makes habituation so much easier. Even the adults are pretty good.
