As sure as I was the wild dog’s would head past Manyuhci pan on there way hunting, I was wrong. They just didn’t pitch up anywhere I searched today. I suppose I should be used to this by now.
Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it, well not until we have managed to inoculate the whole pack.
Midday found in the shade at Sosigi dam. It was another cool day and again the animals were sparse. Mr and Mrs Gypo were there with their little ones, all still going strong.
A Saddle-billed Stork joined in on the frog hunting alongside the Hammerkop and Yellow-billed Stork.
And besides a few wildebeest, a small herd of impala and some zebra, Sosigi dam was hardly pumping with action.
Later in the afternoon I went up north to where lions had killed a buffalo bull, right at one of the scout pickets. The scouts awoke at 4h30 to the commotion and apparently the lions only managed to down the bull at 5h30. These are the 8 breakaway youngsters from the Nduna pride.
But when I got there, there was no sign of the lions and vultures were scattered in trees but not near the carcass. Obviously all are nervous of the activity at the scout picket. But I’m sure by nightfall the lions will be back on the carcass.
