By the evening the boys luck was in. We found Magwaza mating with Sjambok. Manyari and his brother were hanging around too.
Soon after dark Manyari headed off and we followed. Well we thought we were going to but my battery was totally flat and when Darryl started his car some strange noises were coming from his engine! That was us done for the night.

We had been working on our cars all day yesterday fixing other things and now a whole new set of problems. Amazing how when things go wrong they really go wrong. But thankfully none of these are major problems.

I was out at dawn searching for the lions and arriving on Banyini I was greeted by a huge herd of some 600 buffalo coming to drink. I had just stopped to film when I heard this growling not too far from me. There was Sjambok mating with Magwaza. In the tawny grass they are so well camouflaged I must have almost driven over them.

The buffalo just kept coming and coming and the lions just kept watching and watching. Sjambok’s brother was also there but no sign of Manyari. I’m sure if she was there we would have seen some action.

But the lions just watched the whole herd come and go. It was not even 15 minutes and the whole herd had drunk and moved on.

In the cool overcast weather of today the lions stayed out in the open mating at their usual interval of about 3 times an hour.
I left the lions some time later to get back to vehicle maintenance.
