Bird of a Feather

Today, like the last three days has been cold and cloudy. Kim is away, taking his family back to school after a week here. After working in the office all morning, I escaped into the bush after lunch. As I drove, it began drizzling and I didnt hold much hope for the afternoons game viewing. Banyini yielded this zebra and his family, munching quietly on their lunch.

There was a lot of elephant sign at the pan and they seemed to have headed east. As I made way in that direction, I heard a radio report that the elephant were on Orphan Road. It didn’t take long for me to get over there.

A small bunch were digging in to some strychnos fruits (monkey oranges). They crunched the hard fruits loudly and with relish.

I spent half an hour or so with them until the drizzle increased and the light dropped too.

Cool Buffalo: Video

I’m finding it so frustrating not getting out filming all day and really only having a few hours in the afternoon to get out.
But the hangar is coming on well. Only a couple more days I hope but I’m travelling again tonight to get my daughters back to school.
It was another cool day and in the early morning a herd of buffalo arrived to drink at Bandama and the bulls even to wallow. It seems like any time or temperature, they just want to wallow. Maybe it helps them prove their double-rugged status!

Giraffe away
With my mind not fully set on filming at the moment, my stills camera battery died on me. I did manage to resuscitate it slightly by warming it near the cars engine and was able to fire off a few pictures at dusk on these giraffe.
Pretty bleak stuff.
