Spending an evening at Banyini pan is really worthwhile. The reserve is already fairly dry, with only a few pans being supplied with water. It is a great attraction for the animals.

These baboons were the highlight. Baboons are always entertaining to watch and really deserve more ‘press coverage’ on the african safari.

I watched these guys feeding, drinking and as always, bullying the smaller baboons. I think that in their similarity to our own selves, lies their appeal. I can watch them for hours.

As I passed the air strip, I came across a large herd of impala. I stopped to watch them when this male trotted up to the herd giving a gargling sort of bleat. That is why his head is lifted in the photo. Some of the females were also bleating, sounding exactly like goats!

This zebra was doing something funny with his lips and caught my attention. He appears to be the stallion of the herd and the only thing I can think of was that he is performing flehmen. This is when he smells the urine of a female in heat and performs a weird movement with his lips.

The baboons were also on Banyini and some impala gathered under the trees where the baboons fed to collect any food the baboons dropped.
