Elephant calf runs for the Water

While filming for the series, Kim and his girls were at the waterhole doing some publicity shots. I took the opportunity to snap a few shots of the action as some ele bulls came in to drink.

They had a great time splashing in the mud.

Kim got a few shots in as well!

This is one of the nice tuskers just before he got to the waterhole.

Malilangwe’s impressive tuskers: Video

With getting the final filming of my daughters done for the Animal Planet Series today, we weren’t able to get out after the lions. (And we won’t be following them for the next few days, as I have to take them back to school.)

Brave dude
The girls and I were out early following up on a pride of lions we’d seen briefly last night near Kwali camp. These are the youngsters and one adult female that had been part of Manyari’s pride. They killed a zebra foal in the hills in the early evening.

Sunset 04/06
Their tracks headed into the hills and we heard baboons shouting frantically right there. Unfortunately we weren’t able to follow up.
Later we picked up a few elephant near the pan north east of Chivi. A young bull with a deformed front left elbow was there. I’ve seen him before and he seems to be doing just fine although the top part of the leg looks totally wasted and without muscle.

Dislocated
At Nduna dam we chilled out in the shade for several hours playing cards hoping the elephant herds would come for a swim.

The herds
Then back west we travelled. Spud and another big tusker were bathing and slowly wondered off to graze in the savannah of Banyini.

Back to camp for a quick snack and then filming again with the girls. This time it was horse riding and a few final wrap pieces and now we’re done. The shooting on the Series is done and in 3 months time it will all be wrapped. Stay tuned for the final dates of broadcast AND of course the Series title. (still not decided)
