Hippo

Today was hot, much warmer than yesterday. Most of the pans have dried up already and I hear they are going to start pumping water to the main ones tomorrow. That is good news for game viewing and photography. Water in pans means the game will congregate at the water sources.

Game has been scarce since the rains started which makes life difficult for us but also gives us a challenge. You find yourself working with and photographing completely different animals. The jackals that Kim has been watching have become a common sight now on the airstrip. The impala in that area have also become accustomed to vehicles and I have witnessed some great behaviour where usually I see tails disappearing into the bush. This social grooming between two male impala is an example.

The bush is always in changing in small subtle ways and sometimes you need to be immersed in it to notice.
