I’m always trying to get the elephant swimming at Nduna dam, which they might do often but it’s usually at night. Or else it’s late afternoon when the dam is already in shadow.
But when the light is right, I’m still waiting for that, it’s going to be stunning having them swimming against that backdrop of sandstone ridges. Unfortunately when I filmed this a few weeks ago the light was high in the sky.
Today the girls had their athletics sports day at school. But there was no rest for dad. We still needed footage of them doing different activities at school for the Animal Planet Series. So there I was sprinting the 100m, 400m and Relay getting shots running alongside them. Who knows what it all looks like!
Those elephants surely enjoy their swim! I couldn’t help thinking how much captive elephants would enjoy just such pleasure. I don’t think many get the chance though.
That is why we have to do all that we can to get those elephants that are in zoos to sanctuaries where they can at least have more room than what the zoos offer.

swimming is my favorite way of burning of those extra fats and calories.,*
