Impala Sparring: Video

The weather says sunny for the next few days, so I was surprised to wake to drizzle but luckily it didn’t last.
The airstrip was again my first port of call but it was fairly quiet at dawn. These 3 impala rams were full of life and keen to take each other on in continuous sparring bouts. This wasn’t serious stuff, but in a few months time when they’re pumped with testosterone they could even fight to the death.

Mud Splash
The local zebra herd came strolling by not showing any interest in the impala’s activities.
And likewise the jackal were there too sleeping close by.
As the airstrip settled in to it’s slow pace for the rest of the day we headed east. The elephant herds were back south of Nduna and moving east.

The Best
Again there was no sign of all my usual fans, One-tusk, Mandlovu, Tuchem and Chipfonge. Mamma-Notch was around with her tiny little calf. A bold little fellow. We spent most of the day with her as they foraged and wallowed in any little pan they came across.

So Brave!
They eventually moved into the hills at Chitindigova and we lost them. This gave us the chance to head across to Nduna dam were these bulls were just loving their swim. This is such a stunning little dam and it’s always a bargain to find ellies swimming here.

Synchronised Swimmers
Heading back to look for the elephant herds we picked up a herd at Madhope pan. This is a pretty cool pan with rocks on the one side. It’s the first time I’ve seen elephant here.

On the rocks
We didn’t stay long as I had to head back for more interviews for the Series.
