Elephant kids go Mud! : Video

Another really hot dry day! What a bargain.
A few more days like this and off-road access will be hugely improved. Not that it’s going to make following lions any easier. I’ll still be watching moving grass seed-heads to follow them.

Dappled
With improved access we were able to get down to the Mahande. All the elephants seemed to be down there feeding on the huge green grass pastures. And Mandlovu was there with Chipfongwe and her family. All looking really well and Chip sure is growing.

Shiny
They were just leaving a mud wallow when we found them and another herd moved in. The same herd with the new little calf. They didn’t stay long but another little guy just couldn’t contain himself and went wild in the wallow.
Every time I see elephants having a mud wallow is a new experience for me. They just so love it and it so reminds me of my own kids.

Fun ahead!
Today the girls didn’t get to wallow, but leaving the elephants at midday as the sun baked down, the girls were soon out the car walking and wallowing in the deep puddles in the road. What bliss it is to be a kid! Don’t worry I often revert to kid status. Mainly ‘cos I can!

  • Looks like sooo much FUN - can almost hear them ‘giggling’ Must be pretty happy little guys - look like they don’t have a care in the world. Kim - do the little ones ever get hurt by the bigger ones when ‘lost’ in the mud? They seem to not be paying too much attention to all those legs & just wondering if any of them get alittle carried away & ‘forget’ where they are or who’s around…?!

  • Kids of all species ALWAYS know how to have fun!!!

  • Cheeky: It’s amazing how the little guys just don’t get hurt. The older animals seem to be constantly aware of the little guys, although they all seem to be going wild. The young bulls can be bully’s at times though and get chased off by the cows.
