Having been grounded for the last few days, the vultures were quick to take to the air and find the buffalo kill. But their moment of glory was short-lived when the lions chased them off. And so their waiting game began.

We left and picked up One-tusk down the road with her family. Her big calf almost tried one of her mother’s tricks on us but chickend out. Then One-tusk came over for her usual trick. First she tried to get her foot onto the bull-bar and then put her tusk onto the bonnet of the vehicle, which was my time to stop her denting it. She backed off quite happy and carried on feeding.

Late afternoon I took my daughters down to Malilangwe dam for a walk. The water level had risen substantially since Penny and I walked down there a few days ago. The conditions were perfect now for hundreds of White-faced duck to hang out in the recently flooded grasslands.

It seems those 2 males really don’t like you. Let’s hope they’ll soon get used to your presence.
Hey Kim!
My goodness - you must have nerves of steel!! The hair on the back of my neck stood up when I realized that lion was looking at you…Like I said before - Kim, you are one BRAVE man!!
The buffalo video broke my heart…how much suffering can one endure? May I ask ‘another’ one of my ’stupid’ questions?? How much is an animal feeling at a time like that? Do they kind of go into a stupor & (hopefully) feel less pain or are they right there with it?? That 22 hours seems like an usually long time - why is that & why don’t the lions kill faster? I feel so much for that poor buff - life can be so cruel…
OK - thanks for taking my questions again.
Hope you have a great time with your girls - I’m pretty sure that’s just a given!!
Merry, Merry Christmas & all the Best in 2008!!
It’s snowing BIG time here - be thinkin’ of ya…
Cheeky: How much is the animal feeling? Hmmmm……not too sure but I can tell you that my Grandfather said when he was being dragged by the lion that he felt ALL the pain.
I suppose if the animal isn’t going to get away the lions have no reason to kill it. They’re not aware of the pain and suffering the animal is going through.
Great stuff.
Merry Christmas. We have snow here in Vancouver, BC…….
Questions for you:
I am not sure if there is a full length video about Tjololo. Is there? Can’t seem to find it.
Also, have you seen Khayeni again?
Take care!
Ivanova
The movie about Tjololo is called “Stalking Leopards” and was a National Geographic production.
And just to add something — it is a wonderful, beautiful movie. Perhaps you could still get a copy through National Geographic.
