20th December 2000
Rain 2mm
Tjololo was still in Kruger giving us a chance to prowl for other opportunities and also get shots for the “Wants List” that Dale is sending me as he progresses with the editing.
Soon after midnight Tjololo was back on Mala Mala and rested up on his southern boundary. Lightening was threatening all around and with the first drops of rain we scattered back to camp as we were close by.
The rain didn’t do much, just a soft irritating drizzle.

And so goes the last entry in my LeopardCam diary.
Tjololo was still a part of my life at Mala Mala for another 4 years. Sadly those days have come to a final end with his passing away last month.

Wince. Is this really the end of the diary for him, or maybe a convenient point to stop? The diary entries have been a way to stem the loss….
And. If the 20th is really the end, what a spectacular photo of him for the close. He was and is, magnificent.
Kim, thank you so very much for giving the world a chance to share his life, and see him thru thick and thin. You were brilliant partners, brilliant.

First off Thankyou so much for brining to me things I could never amagined I would ever see. I can’t get enough of all this splender.
Could you please tell me about Tjololo’s offspring are , their names and are they still alive do they have offspring and any information on them .
Best Regards
sue
from Ottawa Canada
Hi Sue. Unfortunately I left Mala Mala before I saw any of Tjololo’s cubs take up residence. Usually they’ll leave natal territory and set up else where. Also I had my own names for his cubs, which the Mala Mala rangers do not use. So it’s unfortunate we cannot follow up on any of his offspring. He was quite an active dude in working on producing offspring, so one can be sure his genes are scattered all over the area. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
Hi Kim
How did Tjololo dien and how old was she? She was truly amasing though.
Oooo meisie………… Tjololo was n mannetjie. he died after attacking a porcupine and getting impaled by quills which later festered in his body. he was about 14.
My sincere apologies. Don’t know what I was thinking. We even have the DVDs (blush). Why I wrote she I cannot tell u. Probably because I recently watched “eye of the leopard”. I feel like a real chop! Eish Maria! But thanks for the info. So sad to see such magnificent animals with such a history die such a slow and painful death.
Hi Kim
I’ve been an admirer of your work for quite some time. I need you to clear something for me. In “Beauty and the Beast” & “Stalking Leopards”, who was Beauty, was it the mother or the surviving daughter that brought down that massive impala ram. I also want to know if Beauty & Tjellers are the same female & what was Tjellers’ name according to the Mala Mala rangers. Thank You in advance.
Hi Hakim. Beauty is Tjellers. The Mala Mala name for her was The Tjellahanga Female. Quite a mouthful. It was her surviving cub that killed that big impala. Tjellers died 5 or 6 years ago. She would have been about 14yrs old. A good innings for a wild leopard. She was a real star!
Hope that helps. Cheers Kim
Hi Kim
Thanks, that helped a lot but i wanted to know if “Beauty” was the name of the mother or the daughter that killed the impala. Also do you plan on a making another extraordinary film on leopards in the future, perhaps in a different location.
Beauty was the name of the mother. Tjellers. Same leopard. Cheers Kim
Opps! sorry Kim, i just realized you answered my question on the previous post. Thank You again.
Hello Kim! I understand your very busy at the moment but it’s nice to see you posting comments a few times. I’m so sorry it’s the end of Tjololo, he is and always will be a magnificent leopard. I’m sure everyone here on Wildcast will remember him for years to come.
Hi Kim
In Beauty & the Beast, did Beauty’s daughter have a name given to her by you or the rangers. Is she still alive.
The rangers never named her. Probably cos we named her “Two” and the other cub was “Four”. not quite the sort of names Mala Mala like to use……….
Two had 2 whisker spots on the left and Four had 4 spots on the left. Cheers Kim
i just watched stalking leopards for the first time and loved the story of tjololo, and checked up on him on youtube to find he had passed away. i’ve read how he died and it seems such a waste.
did he have any cubs with beauty? and if so how much? did he have cubs with any other females. i guess i hope is legacy is carried on in mala mala.
great job watching tjololo and bringing us the most amazing footage kim.
sorry to ask but when did tjololo pass away? i’ve looked through the diary and it seems that after your last webcast you still saw tjololo for 4 yrs after before his passing. i’m just a bit confused, sorry
yeah it is a bit confusing. People asked me when i started Wildcast if i would put up Tjololo’s diaries again, from 2000. so the dates you’re seeing on Wildcast are not the actual dates of the diary. the diary dates are written with each diary entry and are the year 2000.
Tjololo died in 2007, i think.
yes he does have offspring on Mala Mala but i don’t know what they named them
hope that makes sense.
Kim
did tjololo have cubs with beauty (tjellars). cos at the end they had mated but i don’t know if the cubs you are referring to were tjololos or not.
no Beauty never had any cubs from Tjololo. she was too old. Cheers Kim
Sad that Beauty was too old to have cubs. Would’ve been amazing if she could have! What do you think you would have named the cubs?
This is some good material. It took me a while to find this site but it was worth the time. I noticed this page was buried in bing and not the number one spot. This website has a lot of first-rate material and it doesnt deserve to be burried in the search engines like that. By the way I am going to save this web publication to my list of favorites.
