This is an action shot of a big male giraffe shaking his head to chase the Redbilled Oxpeckers. They were obviously irritating him by pecking away around his ears and horns. The giraffe shook his head this way several times and the birds kept returning and irritating him.

Further along the road, as I was leaving the Banyini area I took this photo to give you an idea of what some areas of Malilangwe look like in the rainy season. This is a low lying swampy area close to the road. Two weeks ago it was completely dry with just cracked, dried mud. Now it is six inches deep in muddy water!

As I type this, I can hear thunder from the east and heavy dark clouds are rolling in. It looks like we are in for another storm. A good rainy season is good for animals and plants alike so I will not complain. These waterbuck with the light shining through their shaggy coats were inquisitive. They remind me a little of shaggy donkeys. I could just see the puzzled look on there faces as they tried to figure out what I was doing.
