Tjololo - 12 th December 2000

The Tjololo Diaries

We’ve been lucky over the last couple of weeks not to have had too much rain, but when we got to Rocky Crossing this afternoon we were greeted by a mass of chocolate brown water thundering over the crossing, too deep for us to cross. This meant the long haul north to cross at the bridge. A good extra 2 hours driving to get to where we’d left Tjololo.
But he’d already done us a little favour and was already a fair distance north of where we’d left him. He was on a serious territorial mission tonight walking for nearly 13 hours with only about an hour and a half’s break. He headed back all the way to the northeast where he’d gone on the 8th. It looks like he’s now including this into his domain.
Moving west he suddenly started calling a lot, sniffing a trail to and fro. I suspect Masuli or another male had been in the area and Tjololo was announcing his displeasure at them having trespassed.
Right back in the river on his western boundary he eventually rested up around 8h00. A real long haul for him.
Maybe the not so lazy Tjololo.
