The lions hadn’t moved from their position in the morning and were still napping at sunset, but were active shortly afterwards.
They were just south of the hills in the sandy soils, which was a relief as the clay soils to the south are still wet.

Their move didn’t last and a few hundred meters on they were out again. This was only until a giraffe almost walked on top of them. They sprung into action but she got away.
When the clay soils are wet the game tends to stay away from them obviously, so it was a huge surprise (well actually I should have guessed it) that the lions then headed south onto the clays.
All the game moves off the clay and the lions move onto the clay. Hmmm……no sense in that plan.

Thankfully the clays had dried out considerably and were fine for us to drive on except for a couple of small wet patches.
Needless to say the lions didn’t find any animals on the clays and spent the night moving in fits and starts southwards. That is deeper into the clays.

So no surprise at dawn that another night went by and the lions went hungry, although they did end up eating grass at dawn.

With a fairly lazy night behind them the youngsters managed to gather enough energy to spend a little play time together.

When they took to the shade I’ve headed on to Banyini to check on those impala mommies. Alas they’re still keeping me in the dark. Even I’m beginning to feel uncomfortable now seeing them with those huge tummies ready to burst any day now.
