19th November 2000
Rain 36mm, that’s at our camp.
Rain in several other areas in a radius of 10km around us – 48mm, 58mm, 100+mm.
This was a major storm that passed over us in the middle of the night.
Because of all this rain in the catchment, Richards folks who were staying with us had to wait until several of the smaller rivers had subsided before they could get out and back to Johannesburg.
By the afternoon even in our four wheel drives we couldn’t cross at Rocky Crossing as the river had risen a couple of feet. It just wasn’t worth our while to do the hour and a half’s drive to the north and work all the way back south looking for Tjololo.
We had him early in the morning in the southern area of his territory now having left his girl and getting back to the business of hunting and marking territory.

His swelling was totally down but all the contents had spilt out onto his cheek and ear leaving a dark streak on that side as he tried to clean it up. Not the most handsome looking of Tjololo’s around.
The afternoon had us working in the south and some great light came through again for the last hour. The impala lambs went careering around seeming to be enjoying the beauty of the moment.
