Not all together a fun day.
But then I have to go to town sometimes for supplies, etc.
Back on the reserve I took a drive towards sunset and was lucky to find several elephant herds near Banyini including Spud. I haven’t seen the dude for some time. There were several big bulls with the herds, which possibly means there’s a female in oestrus.
While some elephant were still in the mopanie others were mud bathing at Banyini pan. A whole group of young bulls gathered around a small mud hole and were vying with each other for what seemed to be really Goooood mud!
Being up close and personal with the elephant I again realised how lucky I am to lead the lifestyle I do. Finishing off my day with this most awesome sight of the sun setting on the backs of the all muddy elephants.
And a giraffe staring at a mad cameraman so engrossed in his work.
Make us city people jealous!
Lucky indeed! What a gorgeous sky!! All those elephants - that truly must be God’s country! What a life you must lead - you must be one happy man!
Hey Kim, I got to see ‘The Hyena Queen’ on the NGChannel the other day - I’d seen it before but of course, I had to watch it again - as I said before, you are one very BRAVE man! It must’ve been ‘like a dream’ to be able to ‘mingle’ with those little ones - & later the bigger ones…this is probably a silly question but have you ever seen them again? Do you think they’d recognize you & come in for a ’scratch’?! Love the names you gave them - how fitting-Nakita, Scratch, Nibbles, Gork - what was with that Gork anyways? Must say, I did feel sorry for her. You could sure see how much you ‘loved’ those pups…!! Anyways, look forward to seeing it again!

Cheeky: have to remind you, I wasn’t brave. Just had a good understanding of the hyaenas. Haven’t been back a while. Wouldn’t think they would respond immediately to me, but after a night or 2 with them I think they would be back to normal.
Gork was just an old grumpy girl. She had her own hassles to worry about.
