African sunset elephant silhouette

Yes the Springboks won last night. Great work guys!
And yes I watched the game. So not much work last night but then I think the reasons were certainly justified.
But I did get out at in the late afternoon and as the cloud cover cleared, the light that came through was stunning. I just couldn’t resist it and had to get out there.

Hlamba Mlonga
Of course Banyini was alive with its normal film subjects. Impala, wildebeest and zebra.

Impala
The elephant were feeding in the mopanie woodland just to the east of Banyini waiting for the sun to set before they ventured out into the open to drink at the pan.
Once the first group had gone through I lined myself up almost in their path and shooting from a beanbag on the ground I was able to get their silhouettes against the sunset. Initially they came in small groups slowly sauntering to the water moving about 50m away from me. But then suddenly my viewfinder went dark. Mandlovu and her herd strolled past right next to my vehicle. Of course I wasn’t in it, but in front of it. I could almost touch them as they walked past. But now it wasn’t just Mandlovu’s herd, there were at least 20 elephant strolling past me. I felt so so small surrounded by these huge animals, but in a strange way I felt safe as they moved on to the water.

Leap
Wow that sure was one of those special moments that I’ll always keep with me.
Is Mandlovu now totally relaxed with me around? With the car maybe, but with me out the car? I think that’s a different story.
On a high from that experience the evening just go better when the boys played so well to win the big one. The Rugby World Cup!

The Tjololo Diaries

21st October 2000
Tjololo will probably still be out of action for the night with his kill, and a cold front having arrived with the possibility of rain, I took the time writing a storyboard to get out to potential broadcasters.

After a short period of drizzle early in the evening the rain didn’t manage to do much else though.

Springboks Win!!!

South Africa has won the Rugby World Cup beating England 15 - 6.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Springboks!

You make us all proud to be South Africans!
