Elephants all the time: Video

We started the day out early with my daughters tracking rhinos. We wanted to get up close and personal with them on foot. After a couple of hours walking we weren’t any closer to finding any. There were tracks in the area but all a day or more old.
We also came across fresh lion tracks from earlier in the morning and tracks of a leopard.

Eyeballing
Unfortunately when I checked in the area later I didn’t find any sign of Manyari. In the little time I had for the rest of the day, I checked in all the usual areas for Manyari but without joy. But then I probably only covered about 20% of the area that she operates in. I’ll keep trying and once the girls leave on Sunday will be after her full time.

Coming and going
The elephants were all feeding in the mopanie woodland surrounding Chekwa pan and kept frequenting the pan to drink and wallow throughout the day. It was great to spend time with them again, even though Chipfongwe and Mandlovu weren’t in the area.

Muddy plunge
The young bulls were all huddled around the where the water seeps into the pan, all wanting to get their share of fresh water. And it’s always the biggest dude who gets the biggest drink.

Many siphons
Late afternoon the girls and I got lucky and we managed to sneak up to a white rhino bull near Hwata pan. We got to about 50m before he suspected something and slowly sauntered off.

Muddy challenge
It was a great finish to another great day!
