At this time of year when Malilangwe dam is at it’s lowest the exposed shallows provide for good grazing for antelope and is a great gathering point for myriads of birds. With it being the only large open water in the area they all gather here to preen and rest by day before heading off to feed in the evenings.

I managed to sneak in the most amazing kayaking this morning being on the water just as it was light enough to see our way. The most stunning time of day to be paddling. And when the sun rose shining on the snow covered ‘Sleeping Indian’ it was the most awesome sight.

Then it was the 8 hour drive to Jackson Lake Lodge in the Grand Teton Park. Driving over the Continental Divide was another breathtaking sight with snow having fallen over night. Of course being an African, we just don’t see snow, I had to get out and play in it. Even being bare-foot as usual, it was still piles of fun. Snow is so cool! (yes cold too)

But for most part of the journey the scenery was open flat dry country. Not being the driver I was able to doze off until arriving near Jackson Hole when the scenery was again awesome. But there is a lot less snow than we had at the previous festival I was at 2 years ago. I sure hope it snows in the next week to cover the Tetons. They are truly stunning when sprinkled with the white powder.
