Cuddling lions: Video

Not much to report from last night.

Plains game
7 well fed lions weren’t going anywhere. They slept for most of the night only getting active around 4am. But then it was just to play, cuddle and socialise.

Rough night
After a drink at Lojaan dam they headed north. Why?

Are you coming?
What is it that keeps them going back there? There’s hardly an abundance of animals and the bush is really thick.

Do I have to
What was also very strange, was I heard the rest of the pride calling a long ways to the east. So why didn’t they head that way?
They moved about 5kms north before calling it a day.

The Tjololo Diaries

11th September 2000
Tjololo not well??? No he’s just fine. I think his lethargy over the last few days has possibly been due to the weather. The last few days have been really hot, dry and windy. But late yesterday it all changed and was considerably colder last night.
Tjololo was already on the move before sunset and kept at it all night at a brisk pace. But strangely he didn’t find himself any hunting opportunities. Also if he hadn’t been well I’m sure he wouldn’t have been traversing and marking territory to the very north, an area we have had him visit only once before.
This territorial move still baffles us as Masuli is still at large and Tjololo is moving way into his territory.

In the early hours Tjololo headed into Kruger. At dawn he was close to the Mala Mala boundary again when he chased a female leopard up a tree. We could only watch about 100m off as we don’t have access into the National Park. I’m not sure if this female is in oestrus or he just came across and gave her the normal aggressive male treatment. Hopefully we’ll know tonight when he ventures back onto Mala Mala.
