The Tjololo Diaries

11th July 2000
Mala Mala’s guests had the honour of Tjololo’s presence at sunset. Only once they’d left were we able to attach ourselves to him again.
He’s looking more like a leopard again, not having fed for several days allowing his waistline to slim somewhat.
He was very lethargic and after a brief hunting session, rested. 2 hyaenas hassled him and he took refuge in a tree. A short while later he was again resting and again the hyaenas pestered him. This went on all night, he’d hardly rested up half an hour and they’d come and drive him off.
Only in the early hours, after eventually catching up on enough rest, did Tjololo go hunting again and killed a female bushbuck, which he was quick to tree in case his antagonists arrived. The bushbuck was pregnant and Tjololo was quick to feed on the foetus.

It’s sometimes hard to understand and accept these harsh realities of survival.
