Khayeni was a busy girl in the early evening. Which was sure not much fun for us as she hunted impala in some of the thickest bush I have ever tried to traverse in a vehicle. And would not even think of trying on foot. Eventually it became impenetrable and we had to abandon trying to keep up with her.

She decided to spend most of her night resting in these thickets and only got on the move again about 3 in the morning. Thankfully she took to the open area of Khayeni to do her hunting. But prey was scarce. We did see a few small herds of impala but these were out of view to Khayeni as the taller grass reduced her visibility.
She did manage to catch 2 mice! But instead of eating them on the spot she carried them about a hundred meters, as if showing off her trophies, before she ate them.
She had caught a 3rd mouse and was carrying it when something else caught her eye. She dropped her trophy and chased after it but missed. Just then a hyaena arrived on the scene. It found the mouse and swallowed it. Khayeni was not impressed at its presence and snuck away.
A lone Genet scrambled up a tree and into the higher branches to safety. Khayeni eye-balled it for some time and then gave up.
At dawn she headed back in to her thickets to lie up for the day. She could get active earlier this afternoon, as it’s been cool and overcast and we did get rained on last night. Well it was more like being spat on.
It’s strange that in most years it will rain in the latter part of June. Just a cold gentle drizzle to make life out there uncomfortable. (and looking at Tjololo diaries I see it was the same back then)

It was great again to spend several hours hunting with Khayeni but in general not a very productive filming or photographic night. Only 2 photographs! And those were nothing to write home about.
