Success for all of us was bleak.
We didn’t get any sleep and the lions hunted unsuccessfully.

At dusk a Sable bull crossed their path some ways to the south. They let him be until after sunset when they followed up but were never able to locate him.

Next they turned their attention to a herd of zebra. We followed Manyari as she moved round on the flank to launch her attack from that side. But when she did charge in there was no support and the zebra got away.
She tried the same again with a herd of eland and this time too she received no support.

The pride then continued south-east. Now they were onto real prey, buffalo. A whole herd of them. This time the youngster were in there, but this herd was having none of that and took the battle to the lions. How any of them knew where the other was in that dense cloud of dust was incredible. But every now and then a young lion would pop out with the herd hot on its heels. This went on for about 20minutes, but it was only the young lions who were a it. The adults had moved off about a kilometre and lay waiting for the kids to finish with their antic.

They all then moved on south crossing the Mahande river to rest up at dawn near the Malevula hills.

The wild dogs had been seen back on Malilangwe yesterday afternoon but I had no joy when searching for them this morning. I’ll be checking on them again soon.
