22nd March 2000
Managed to get out on an access road today and was surprised to see how, still after not having any rain for a few days, the roads are still flowing. There are huge reserves of water held up in “sponges” which is continuously being released. These will take some time to dry out.

Just heard figures of rainfall today. For the month of February we had 5 times more rain than the monthly average and double what has ever been recorded in living memory. No wonder we’re still “floating”.
