The story goes that when you see Vultures, it means that there must be a kill close by. Not always. These feathered creatures often seek out predators as their neighbors for the night. Vultures often hang around the dens of Wilddog and even choose to roost where a pride of lions is having a rest.

Vultures keep the bush clean by finishing off any carcasses that might be lying around that some predator forgot about. This ensures that diseases are kept under control.

As the lions will move off hunting for the night, the vultures will decent to their roosting spot for the night.

Just above the hunter we had yesterday, there is another human figure holding an animal. Its not clear what the animal standing next to him could be. What is quite amazing is the way the hunter carries his prize on his shoulders. A true characteristic of the Bushmen.

Does the way the two images overlap have any significant meaning? Could this be from a dream?

Very trying times as we got stuck again on several occasions. Dale and I got stuck in the Maxipiri river. Rather nerve racking at first not knowing what to do as branches would have had little effect. But once I’d decided to deflate the tyres we sailed out of there.
With conditions the way they are, I’m having second thoughts as to whether we should actually be working now and not wait until the roads and bush have dried up more. But we definitely can’t leave without knowing the status of Tjololo and Tjellers. So could be here till it dries out anyway.

We did have female leopard tracks near Charleston koppies which is the heart of Tjellers’ territory, so presume they are hers. We tried to follow up but soon lost the tracks in the flowing water in the road.
Still no sign of Tjololo.

Trying to nap in the early hours of morning is also proving impossible as we get attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. The dreaded thought is always there – are they carrying malaria? We’ll just have to cover all exposed body parts and paste ourselves with insect repellant.
And again we had some rain in the early hours. No sign of the end of the rainy season.
